Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric neurosurgery includes treatment of conditions that are specific to children and require neurosurgical intervention. These include brain tumors of the childhood, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, spinal malformations, pediatric traumatology, and craniosynostosis.

The treatment of these diseases is carried out in close cooperation with the department of pediactrics (Chair Prof. Dr. Däbritz), department of neuropediatrics (Chair Prof. Dr. Bertsche) and the department of pediatric surgery (Chair Prof. Dr. Stuhldreier). Patients are treated in the department of pediatrics during their inpatient stay, where it is guaranteed that one parent can be accommodated in the child's room. During the entire inpatient and outpatient treatment as well as the long-term aftercare of our little patients, we attach great importance to close contact with the parents as well as the treating pediatricians. The department of neurosurgery uses the latest equipment for surgical treatment (surgical microscopes, frameless neuronavigation, ALA fluorescence microsurgery, neuroendoscopy, neuromonitoring). The treatment of children requires a high degree of responsibility and operative skills. Together with his colloeages, the head of the department dedicates his many years of clinical and scientific expertise to the good outcome of these patients.
